JUST AS HUMAN AS JESUS

“Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have."

- Luke 24:39

“Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death — that is, the devil.”

- Hebrews 2:14

1.   SEEING HIS HUMANITY BY HIS FAITHFULNESS

“He was faithful to the one who appointed him.”

- Hebrews 3:2

“During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.”

- Hebrews 5:7-9

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

- Hebrews 12:2

2.   SEEING HIS HUMANITY IN TEMPTATION

“Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”

- Hebrews 2:18

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are. . . “

- Hebrews 4:15

3.   THROUGH HIS HUMANITY, SEE THE DIFFERENCE.

“. . . yet was without sin.”

- Hebrews 4:15b

  • Jesus’ question to the religious leaders of his day: “Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me?”

    - John 8:46

  • Statement from man who traveled with him for over three years: “But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin.”

    - 1 John 3:5
