Quest 1

WHAT THE SCRIPTURE SAYS OF JESUS:

“So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.” “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!" “No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven — the Son of Man.” "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” “No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.” "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel." “Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.” “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form.” “These are the words of him who is the First and the Last.” “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.” “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

THE WORD WAS GOD. (John 1:1)

  •  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

  •  The relationship between a word and the idea it represents is the nearest of all relationships.

  •  The idea is in the word and the word is in the idea.

  •  The idea is invisible, inaudible, and unintelligible but in and by the word.

  • An idea cannot be without an image or a word to represent it. Therefore God was never without his word, nor was his word without him.

THERE WAS A “ME” BEFORE THERE WAS A BODY. (Hebrews 10:5)

  •  When Christ came into the world, he said, “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me.”

  •  Psalm 2:7 - I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you.

  •  The Word of God was from eternity; the Son of God began to be in the days of Augustus Caesar (Luke 2:1,4-6) - In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. . . And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth.

THREE THINGS WE BELIEVE ABOUT GOD BECAUSE WE HAVE SEEN THEM IN JESUS:

  •  GOD IS NEAR- HE IS NOT SOME DEITY DISTANCED FROM HUMANITY.

    •  John 1:12 - But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

    •  Romans 8:15 - For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”

  •  GOD IS LOVE – HE DOES NOT HATE THE PAGAN AND THE INFIDEL.

    •  Matthew 5:44 - But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

    •  Luke 23:34 - And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

    •  Romans 5:8 - God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

  •  GOD SUFFERS – HE SUFFERS FOR THOSE HE LOVES.

    •  Isaiah 53:4-6 - Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

    •  John 20:27 - Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.”
