Christians is what the Bible calls us to be: Followers of Christ. If we follow Him, we are Christians. If we are Christians, we follow Him! Have you ever wondered when you drive down the streets of any given town why there are so many different churches? According to many sources, there are over 30,000 different denominations in the world today. One popular website, Wikipedia, sets the number at over 38,000!
Why is it that all those who profess to be following Jesus are divided into so many groups? “Is Christ divided?” is the question the apostle Paul asked when he was writing to the church at Corinth (I Corinthians 1:13). Paul by inspiration of God wrote that the church should not be divided and that we should work together in unity as followers of Jesus (I Corinthians 1:10, Ephesians 4:3, 13). After all, “there is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one Baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all” (Ephesians 4:4-6). This is what we believe and practice.
The Clark Avenue church of Christ is a congregation of followers of Christ, or Christians (Acts 11:26) who take to heart the words of Jesus in Luke 9:23: “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me”. We are following Jesus on the road to heaven (John 14:6). It is our desire to follow Him and only Him. We wear only His name, Jesus the Christ; and we teach and follow only His teachings, for it will be they which shall judge us in the end (John 12:48-50). We invite you to go along with us on our journey with the Lord!
